On the bank of a river, on a big, fruitful jamun tree,
lived a clever monkey, who used to have a lot of fun and jump around freely every day.
A crocodile also lived in the river, he also had great hopes of getting jamun,
but he could not climb the tree, so he used to be very sad.
The monkey saw the crocodile and became his friend. He
kept throwing berries to satisfy his hunger.
When the crocodile’s wife found out the secret of the juice of the berries,
she wanted to eat the monkey’s heart, which could have been very special.
The crocodile, who loved the monkey,
yet got influenced by his wife’s words, started plotting a deadly conspiracy.
A cunning game designed to deceive the monkey,
‘Come to the other side of the river,’ said the crocodile, ‘there is another fair decorated with berries.’
The monkey, unaware of the deceit, sat on the crocodile’s back.
In the middle of the river, the crocodile told the monkey his plan.
‘My wife wants your heart,’ the crocodile said clearly,
‘I thought I cannot give my heart to you while I am alive, so I should spare you today.’
The monkey immediately understood the situation
and cleverly found a solution.
He said to the crocodile, ‘Oh my crocodile friend, you did not tell me the truth,
I often leave my heart on the tree, let’s go back and give this Kanai to your wife.’
The crocodile was deceived and brought the monkey to the shore,
the monkey quickly climbed the tree, leaving the crocodile and kept staring at him.
The monkey told him the whole truth, saved himself in a great way,
understood that not every so-called friend is a true friend, one has to avoid evil.
